Long term (5+ years)- This is the most secure, passive option with the highest return per investment. With the long term option, investments can be diversified among various units, which typically increases the security of an investment. Long term investments are always available meaning there is no lag time from when the investor is ready to invest and interest accrual. This option can also present many tax advantages in comparison to the shorter term options.
